New ‘Writing Television Movies’ Program

The PSP has announced a new training program that aims to diversify the skills of early career BC screenwriters. In the new Writing Television Movies program, a cohort of PSP alumni will develop specialized skills, complete a sample television movie script, and build industry connections.

“Television movies remain a strong area of production activity in BC”, says Camilla Tibbs, PSP’s Executive Director. “Our goal is to serve the market demand for trained writers and to expand the ability of our alumni to build sustainable careers in our province. Developing talent in this format helps to strengthen the Canadian screen sector and create new work opportunities for writers.”

BC is one of North America’s largest production hubs for original movies for networks such as Lifetime, Hallmark and Tubi. The Writing Television Movies program will support six screenwriters through market understanding, training, networking, and the development of an original television movie concept with the support of a development executive. For the 2026/2027 pilot program, application eligibility is exclusive to BC residents who are alumni of the PSP’s Scripted Series Lab or Indigenous Screenwriters Lab. They will be contacted regarding the application process.
