In line with our vision, the Pacific Screenwriting Program works to cultivate a vibrant and sustainable screenwriting community in British Columbia. Our programs and initiatives create impact in three primary ways:
1.
Talent Development
The PSP develops talented screenwriters to meet the needs of the industry, with an emphasis on under-represented voices.
As of April 2025, 70% of the first four Scripted Series Lab cohorts had earned writing credits. Just some of the shows that alumni have worked on recently include Allegiance, Bet, Crew Girl, Family Law, Heartland, Murder in a Small Town, Private Eyes: West Coast, Saint-Pierre, Sight Unseen, SkyMed, Sullivan’s Crossing, Wild Cards, and Yaga. Read more alumni news here.
The Story Department Internship and Develop BC programs give emerging writers experience in writers rooms. Guest Speaker Events and Alumni Support Programs nurture emerging talent.
2.
IP Incubation
The PSP’s programs directly support the development of domestic IP, predominantly in BC.
The Scripted Series Lab and Develop BC enable Canadian showrunners to create more marketable creative concepts, through dedicated script and concept development time.
Emerging screenwriters in the Scripted Series Lab receive mentorship on their pilots, leading to shows being optioned and further developed by established Canadian production companies.
3.
Industry Catalyst
Through all its programs, the PSP facilitates introductions, fosters relationships, and builds capacity and community.
In the Vancouver Scripted Summit, the PSP has created a vital industry event on the West Coast, convening producers, screenwriters, buyers, funders and industry VIPs for an impactful day of panels, roundtables and one-on-one meetings.
By hosting Indrinks events, the PSP creates a focal point and gathering place for aspiring, emerging and established screenwriters and related industry professionals.
