Establishing a career as a screenwriter can be a long road, and the PSP aims to support our alumni in continuing to develop their writing careers after they complete their program with us.
Our activities include:
- profiling alumni on our website and social media, highlighting their successes
- alerting them to opportunities in the industry, including those for writers rooms and internships
- funding emerging writer positions in writers rooms, such as the Story Department Internships
- offering specific professional development initiatives which are provided at no charge to alumni
Deadline Helper
Taking place annually, the Deadline Helper is designed to assist alumni in creating new scripts for their portfolios, increasing their marketability as professional TV writers. By creating peer group teams of writers working on a specific timeline, the program establishes frameworks of accountability, feedback and support. Optional table reads also allow writers to gain insight into what is working and not working in their screenplays.
Market-Readiness Workshops
In late 2024 and early 2025, the PSP will offer a series of workshops related to the business of being a writer. Hosted by industry experts, these sessions will cover vital topics such as:
- networking and fostering long-term, sustainable relationships
- cultivating producer relationships
- career dos and don’ts
- understanding the market & adapting to evolving climates
- managing self-employed income, taxation, incorporating and write-offs
- strategies for saving
Additional sessions are still to be scheduled.
These opportunities are open to writers who have participated in one or more of: the Scripted Series Lab, the Indigenous Writers Lab, the Pitch Accelerator Program, and Story Department Internships. Eligible writers will be contacted directly regarding participation.
